Coping with Female Hair Loss
Ladies, don’t panic! Believe it or not, hair loss in women is quite common. While you may be quite surprised to hear that, it’s the truth. Approximately 20 million women are experiencing some form of hair loss in the United States, right now! Hair Loss does NOT imply that you are less attractive. FYI: you’re as beautiful as you always were. As difficult as it may seem, it’s essential that you keep your good attitude, self-confidence, and social life.
Perhaps the social factors that surround us women make the experience of female hair loss so much more difficult for us. Men become ‘distinguished’ once their hair turns gray. Women rely on hair-dressers. Men bald and age with perfection, what about us? What will people say about us? And that’s the problem right there: we care too much about what they think about us.
You may not be looking for a reason right now, you may be searching for a remedy. Well, in order to achieve a healthy remedy we must seek the cause of hair loss. Fortunately, we live in the information age. Doctors seem to have more and more education on many conditions as well as treatments to correct them. It’s up to you to investigate the changes in your body.
A woman’s body can go through many changes that may promote hair loss. Has your mind and body gone through an excessive amount of stress lately? The birth of a child or the loss of something special/important (such as a loved one, job, etc.) can cause a woman to experience hair-loss, or display other stress-related symptoms.
Instead of traveling further down the stress-spiral, women need to become strong and proactive during this tough time. If you’ve made it this far than you are on the right track. Education is key to understanding and overcoming your trials and tribulations. Women are encouraged to remain open-minded to the facts of their condition, as it is imperative to treatment.
There are three main types of hair loss that women can experience: Alopecia Areata, Androgenetic Alopecia, and Telogen Effluvium. In order to establish which condition you are experiencing, your physician will most likely request a blood test. Here’s the good news: women’s hair loss may resolve itself. Typically, most hair loss in women is due to hormonal imbalances, medications, stress, and pregnancy. Medication may be administered to reverse the process of hair loss.
Once you receive an accurate diagnosis, you must remain patient. Depression and stress will only further aggravate your condition. Do not try any over the counter remedies as this could further promote hair loss and/or possibly cause other complications. Listen to your physician. If you don’t like what you hear, get a second opinion.
Finally, and most importantly, try and remain positive. Write a list of your personal thoughts and feelings about hair loss. Keep track of feelings that may change over time. Be a realist, NOT an extremist. So, you may not be the most gorgeous woman in the world. What woman thinks they are? You’re certainly not the least attractive woman in the world! If you find yourself withdrawing from society and your normal routines, you may wish to seek counseling. Counselors are available to help you understand and cope with your condition.

Hair Loss Getting to the Root of the Problem
It’s fair to say when you started losing your hair you asked “why me”. Maybe after seeing your dad and older brother join the hair less community you figured it was only a matter of time. You begin to shed more than your dog. How do you handle it?
You can never really prepare for ituntil now.
Today the market is flooded with products that promise to regrow hair. But the truth of the matter is they don’t all work. Hair loss products such as shampoos cleanse away the sebum produced by the sebaceous glands. The sebum builds up on the scalp and hardens, clogging the hair follicles there by inhibiting growth. That’s all well and good but it doesn’t get to the root of the problem. The hair stops growing because the hair follicle is undernourished, not dirty. We all know the main culprit is DHT. That doesn’t stand for disastrous hair thinning. It’s Dihydrotestosterone., which basically interrupts the normal functioning of healthy hair growth.
Products such as Rogaine, Procerin and Avacor have shown results with individuals whose hair is still in a growth phase or what’s clinically referred as the anagen stage. The telogen stage is the resting or dormant phase. It’s the one where you start losing your hair. The longer you’re in this stage the lower the chances of getting your hair to grow back.
Most hair growth treatments will state that best results come from the beginning stage of hair loss. So if you’re at the horseshoe stage your odds are slim that the product will work.
There is one product that works even if you’ve been balding for over 20 years. It’s called RK19

Male Hair Loss
Hair loss is more common among men than it is women. Studies show that most male baldness occurs by an increased sensitivity to androgens (male sex hormones). As a result of this sensitivity, hair loss occurs. This can be passed down through genetics.
Don’t get depressed! Nowadays bald men are very fashionable. Clean-shaven heads fill billboards, magazine advertisements, and commercial air-time. Women are attracted to smooth men. Baldness, which was once frowned upon and thought to be undesirable, is now very stylish!
Nevertheless, men who are experiencing baldness might find themselves asking “What is the cause of my hair loss?” Well, your androgens (which circulate in your blood) cause your hair follicles to shrink. Eventually, these follicles become so small that hair can not grow through them. Although the hair follicles are still alive, they can not perform their function. Hence, hair growth stops.
Young men in their twenties and thirties can become devastated at the first signs of male hair loss. Generally there’s a typical pattern that occurs gradually. First, the hair line recedes, secondly the hair on the top of the crown begins to gradually thin. Eventually these ‘thinning’ areas will become bald. Finally, the bald areas will meet and form a U-shape on the crown. The hair that remains will be found on the sides of the head and it is often finer than it used to be.
The question arises, can hair-loss be prevented? Unfortunately for men, hair loss is genetically pre-determined. Baldness can be passed on from your parents and/or grandparents. Although a physician may be able to provide different medical treatments, you must be careful of the side effects. Side effects differ for each person. While some men may experience little to no side effects, others may experience a drastic change in their appearance and sexual drive.
Remember, baldness is a natural act. It is not a disease or disorder. You must realize that the re-growth of lost hair is very unnatural and can end up being very costly. You may or may not be happy with the final results.
